After 35 years of serving breakfast, pie and hometown hospitality, Mama Kat’s closed the doors of its longtime San Marcos Boulevard location today as it prepares to move into a new home at 288 Rancheros Drive in San Marcos.
For generations of North County residents, Mama Kat’s has been more than a restaurant. It has been a gathering place where families celebrated milestones, friends met over coffee, and visitors discovered one of San Marcos’ most beloved breakfast destinations.
The restaurant’s roots date back to the early 1990s, when Mama Kat and her son Michael became part of the local restaurant scene. When the opportunity arose to purchase the restaurant that would become Mama Kat’s, they embraced it and built a loyal following through homemade meals, fresh pies and a welcoming atmosphere.
While the familiar location may be gone, local diners can take comfort in knowing that Mama Kat’s isn’t leaving San Marcos — it’s simply moving down the road and continuing a tradition that has become part of the city’s history.
Additional information about opening dates and the new location is available through the restaurant’s website.
