SAN MARCOS — Staring elimination in the face, the California State University San Marcos softball team rose to meet the challenge.
The top-seeded Cougars swept Friday’s must-win doubleheader in their best-of-three Division II Super Regional over No. 6 Biola to advance to win the Super Regional and advance to the DII Women’s College World Series on Thursday in Chattanooga, Tenn. CSUSM dropped Game 1 of the series on May 21 to put the Cougars in dire straits.
CSUSM (55-10) heads into WCWS as the No. 4 seed and will face fifth-seeded West Texas A&M (52-8) at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday in the double-elimination tournament.
“It was a great softball game,” CSUSM coach A.J. Robinson said of the clinching win. “If you were a neutral fan, you would’ve enjoyed it immensely. If you were a fan of either team, you were biting your fingernails off. It was a crazy game.”
