The San Diego Padres today announced that Major League Baseball and its owners have unanimously approved the transfer of control of the franchise to a new ownership group led by Kwanza Jones and Jose E. Feliciano, who will jointly lead the club’s ownership group and long-term stewardship. Feliciano has been designated as the Padres’ Control Person under MLB governance requirements. The Padres will continue to be led day-to-day by Chief Executive Officer Erik Greupner and President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller.
The closing of the transaction and ownership transition is scheduled to occur in the coming days, and a media advisory will follow with the date and time for a press conference at Petco Park introducing the new Padres owners.
