El Niño occurs when parts of the Pacific Ocean become warmer than usual, which can change our weather patterns and bring the potential for heavy rain, strong storms and localized flooding.
Heavier than normal rain can cause flooding, sinkholes, debris flows, prolonged power outages and dangerous driving conditions.
