Solo Driver Killed in Fatal Traffic Collision

On 05/04/2021 at approximately 12:15 a.m., Escondido Police and Fire units responded to a solo vehicle rollover accident near a restaurant on Valley Pkwy east of Rose St. It appears that 77 year old Escondido resident Pedro Trevino was driving his maroon Mitsubishi Galant west on Valley Pkwy prior to the crash. The Galant likely hit the curb multiple times before driving up onto the sidewalk and striking a palm tree. The car seems to have rolled over as it struck two metal poles in the parking lot near the restaurant. Mr. Trevino was partially ejected from the car and was transported by Escondido Fire Paramedics to Palomar Medical Center in critical condition. He later died as a result of his injuries.

Mr. Trevino was the sole occupant of the car during the crash. It is unknown at this time whether alcohol, drugs, or medications played a factor in the crash. No other vehicles were involved and there were no injured bystanders. The Galant came to rest in the outdoor seating tent of the restaurant, but no one was inside the seating area at the time of the crash. This crash is currently being investigated by the Escondido Police Department Traffic Division.
