SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Men’s and women’s golf, volleyball and men’s and women’s soccer will all be in action this week for Cal State San Marcos Athletics.
Men’s golf will head to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the RJGA South-Central Preview on Monday and Tuesday.
Women’s golf is off to Hurricane, Utah, for the Dixie State Fall Invitational at the Sand Hollow Golf Resort on Monday and Tuesday.
Volleyball will continue California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play by visiting Cal State LA in a midweek tilt on Tuesday at 7 p.m. After that, the Cougar will come home to The Sports Center to face Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Men’s and women’s soccer will each begin a six-game homestand this weekend. The Cougars will first go up against Cal State San Bernardino in their Pink Out games on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. before taking on Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

THIS SEASON •CSUSM placed fourth at the Sonoma State Invitational on Sept. 17, finishing one stroke behind third-place Menlo College with a 49-over 913.

RJGA SOUTH-CENTRAL PREVIEW •This is the Cougars’ first time playing on the UNM Championship Course.
•This marks the fourth Western New Mexico tournament that CSUSM has competed in as the RJGA South-Central Preview was previously named the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate.
•The Cougars were the 2017 WNMU Fall Intercollegiate co-champion with Texas A&M-Commerce with Bisharat tying for fourth with a 8-under 208 performance.

THIS SEASON •The Cougars won their opening season tournament, the RJGA Shootout at Estrella, last week in Goodyear, Arizona.

DIXIE STATE FALL INVITATIONAL •The Cougars have competed in the DSU Fall Invite only one previous time, taking fifth out of 13 teams in 2016.
•Seniors Savannah Magallon and Emily Lichty along with Jacobs were playing in their second collegiate tournament in 2016. Jacob tied for 21st, followed by Lichty’s tie for 23rd and Magallon placed 48th.
THE HUTTON FILE •Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men’s program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women’s head coach in 2014.
•The CSUSM women’s team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
•Under Hutton’s leadership, the women’s team won CSUSM’s first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019.
•In CSUSM’s first year of being a full-fledged member of the NCAA Division II in 2017-18, the Cougar men’s and women’s golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.

PREVIOUS WEEK •CSUSM dropped a three-set CCAA match at No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino on Friday night.
•The Cougars answered with a sweep over Cal Poly Pomona in their CCAA home opener on Saturday.
•With Saturday’s win, the Cougars raised their home win streak to eight matches with two wins carried over from last season. This is CSUSM’s longest home win streak since the program began in 2011.

•In 16 seasons as a collegiate head volleyball coach, Leonard holds a 260-236 (.524) career record.
