San Diego, CA (May 9, 2025)— The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) San Diego and Imperial Counties today announced a leadership evolution following the planned retirement of Chief Operating Officer Sue Skube, a pivotal figure in the organization’s growth and development over the past 13 years.

Since joining NAMI in 2012 as Development Coordinator, and later stepping into the role of COO in 2015, Sue Skube has helped guide the organization through a period of dynamic growth. Under her leadership, NAMI San Diego expanded from a staff of 15 to more than 160, increasing its reach to over 30,000 residents annually across both counties through 39 diverse programs.

“Sue has played an essential role in shaping the organization we are today,” said Cathryn Nacario, CEO of NAMI San Diego and Imperial Counties. “Her passion, insight, and collaborative spirit have helped build strong teams, deep community partnerships, and impactful programs. We thank her for her remarkable service.”

As part of this evolution, the organization has transitioned from a single COO role to a structure featuring two Managing Directors of Programs, each focused on key areas of service delivery and program excellence. Both directors will report directly to the CEO.

Judi Holder will lead Next Steps, Community Supports, and Education and Advocacy initiatives.

Luz Pinto will oversee Housing and Independence, Downtown Services and Supports, and Imperial County programming.

This refinement of the leadership model reflects NAMI San Diego’s continued commitment to the communities it serves and its focus on deepening impact across a wide range of programs.

“NAMI’s forward-thinking approach ensures our programs continue to meet the needs of those we serve while creating opportunities for innovation and collaboration,” said Yuliana Gallegos-Rodriguez, PhD, Board President of NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties. “We are proud of the team in place and look forward to the important work ahead.”
