The Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit is investigating a deadly fire in Vista.
It happened on Friday, October 14 just before 10:00 a.m. at a mobile home park located in the 700 block of Sycamore Avenue.
A member of the Sheriff’s Senior Volunteer Patrol first reported the fire after seeing smoke while on duty. Deputies from the Vista Sheriff’s Station, as well as firefighters with the Vista, San Marcos, and Carlsbad Fire Departments immediately responded to the scene.
Deputies arrived first and were directed to a mobile home by neighbors who said there was a woman still inside. Deputies broke a back window and a sliding glass door in an attempt to get inside. The deputies were pushed back by fire and heavy smoke. Firefighters arrived and put out the fire. They continued the search of the home and found a woman in a bedroom. Lifesaving measures were attempted by paramedics, but she did not survive her injuries.
The fire was confined to the mobile home. A dog and a cat were also found dead inside the mobile home. There were no injuries to firefighters. A deputy suffered scrapes to his hand from breaking a window and was treated at the scene.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the woman, as well as determine cause and manner of death once the family has been notified.
Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Detectives responded to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
