Car Chase – Vista Parolee Arrested After Slow Speed Pursuit

A probationer is back in custody following a car chase in Vista.

It happened on Friday, April 15 around 8:30 a.m. when someone called 9-1-1 about a man waving a knife at the intersection of Eucalyptus and South Santa Fe Avenue.

Nearby schools were placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution as deputies with the Vista Sheriff’s Station responded to the location. Deputies tried to contact the man, but he drove away in a car.

The man led deputies on a slow speed pursuit throughout the City of Vista for nearly 20 minutes. During the pursuit the suspect drove into the North County Regional Center, causing the courthouse to go into a temporary lockdown. Several spike strips were used, but the driver kept going.

Eventually, the driver abandoned the car and ran away. Deputies immediately caught up with the man and took him into custody. The knife was recovered, and no injuries were reported.

Richard Jaime Jr. (DOB 05/28/1980) was booked into Vista Detention Facility on charges of felony evading, driving under the influence and violating the conditions of his release.
