CSU San Marcos Takes Down Stanislaus State in Four

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team won a hard-fought four-set California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match against Stanislaus State on Friday night at The Sports Center.

Emily Vander Weide – 19 kills | 8 digs | 3 total blocks
Kassy Doering – .500 attack percentage | 10 kills | 2 blocks
Aleese Wheaton – 46 assists | 4 kills
Grecia Cordero-Barr – 19 digs | 5 assist

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Cougars went up 13-8 in the opening set, forcing Stan State to take its first timeout. Behind Vander Weide’s six kills, CSUSM held on to take the first set 25-22 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
•The Warriors fought back to even the match at 23-23, but the Cougars prevailed after a Wheaton tip that dropped and a Hébert kill that made it 25-23.
•The Cougars started off the third set slowly, finding themselves down 11-3. CSUSM went on a 12-4 run to even the set at 15-15, but after each team traded leads, the Warriors came out on top at 25-23 to force a fourth set.
•CSUSM came out in the fourth set on fire, taking a quick 7-0 lead. It was Stan State’s turn to fight back to take a 22-21 lead before the Cougars clinched the set at 25-22.

QUICK HITS •CSUSM improves to 12-7 (6-4 CCAA) while Stan State, the CCAA North Division leader, falls to 11-5 (6-3 CCAA).
•Vander Weide tallied a season-best 19 kills.
•With the win, the Cougars remain undefeated against Stan State in The Sports Center at 3-0.
•CSUSM came out on top despite matching its highest attack error total (31) of the season.
•CSUSM had the advantage in kills (60-49) and service aces (6-3) against the Warriors.
