Escondido Fire Department Update

On July 2, Fire crews from Fire Station 3 noticed smoke near the north east corner of the Vons shopping center located at 1000 West El Norte Pkwy. Crews contacted dispatch and a wildland response was initiated. When crews arrived, the fire was covering a 20 x 40-foot area of grass and was proceeding to burn downhill towards the El Norte Parkway offramp. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire. No structures or property were
damaged. Initial investigation suggests the fire may have been started by transients in the area.

On July 3, Fire Crews from Station 7 and 1 assisted an elderly male with a medical emergency. The male patient had been riding his bike when the emergency occurred. The patient was transported to a nearby hospital, but he was worried about his bike. That’s when Josh Kettl, a Firefighter/Paramedic went the extra mile for the man and rode the patients bike home for him. Firefighters pride themselves on providing Legendary Service to residents, and this was just an example of how we care about those we serve.

Also, on July 3, the Escondido Police and Fire Communication
Center received reports of a brush fire at Hubbard Ave. When
crews arrived on the scene, they discovered a small grass fire. The fire was in the process of being extinguished, thanks to some local residents of the area. Fire crews made quick work of completing extinguishment and ensuring resident safety. No structures or property was damaged.

On July 8, Escondido Fire Prevention Team and Firefighters from Station 2 partnered with the American Red Cross to hold a “Sound The Alarm” event at Escondido Terrace Mobile Homes, at 1380 Oak Hill Dr and Valley Parkway Mobile Homes, at 1721 E Valley Pkwy. This was a sponsored free event for homeowners. Volunteers, including Fire Prevention Department Specialist and Fire Explorer, Alan Skaja, participated in an installation course, held by Fire Prevention Specialist, Alexandra Vasquez, and the American Red Cross. They then visited each home in the Parks to install working smoke detectors. In total, 92 homes received this service and 262 smoke alarms were installed.
