SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Ethan Rivera of the Cal State San Marcos baseball team was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region second team, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America Committee.

Earning the award as a utility player Rivera started 20 games behind the plate, 19 games at first base and three games as the designated hitter. He concluded his first season as a Cougar with a.338 batting average, an .809 OPS, 54 hits, 11 doubles, two home runs, a .444 slugging percentage and a team-leading 40 RBIs.

Rivera ranked first in the CCAA and 14th nationally with seven sacrifice flies this season. He was also the sixth-toughest player to strikeout in the conference at 10.7 at-bats between strikeouts. Rivera led the Cougars with 11 multi-RBI games and was third for multi-hit games with 16.

Rivera is the fourth Cougar in program history to earn ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region honors and is the first to earn it as a utility player.

In early May, Rivera was one of four Cougars to earn All-CCAA honors as he was named to the second team.
