Townsite ‘Complete Streets’ Project had Groundbreaking

Townsite Complete Streets Project Groundbreaking was held on Tuesday 2nd at 216 W. Los Angeles Dr. This project will transform approximately 1.2 miles of Townsite and West Los Angeles Drives in the City of Vista by constructing sidewalks, updating ADA ramps, and constructing ADA compliant driveways to improve pedestrian access, mobility, and safety. Four roundabouts, additional curb extensions, and crosswalks will also be constructed to provide traffic calming along this busy city corridor. The project also consists of signing and striping bike lanes, sharrows, and high visibility crosswalks. Along North Santa Fe Avenue between West Orange Street and Bobier Drive, 10 existing bus stops will be upgraded with new shelters and ADA compliant amenities. Finally, two new mid-block pedestrian traffic signals will be installed and are intended to provide convenient and safer crossing locations. Construction begins this month and is expected to be completed in summer of 2024.

Congressman Mike Levin; City of Vista Mayor John Franklin, Vista Deputy Mayor Corinna Contreras, Vista Council members Katie Melendez and Dan O’Donnell,and City of Vista City Manager John Conley. Representatives from Senator Blakespear and Supervisor Jim Desmond’s office attended also City staff and neighborhood residents.
This project will utilize Federal funding through the Active Transportation Program. The project was awarded to LC Paving and Sealing, Inc. through a competitive bid process for $3,150,284.05.
