CARLSBAD — The third and final satellite in the Viasat-3 constellation roared into space on Wednesday after a successful launch on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy vehicle.

The latest satellite will now embark on a months-long journey to its geosynchronous orbit (GEO) position before undergoing testing for the satellite communications company. Once testing is complete, the satellite will provide high-capacity broadband internet service across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, according to Richard Jones, Viasat’s senior communications manager.

The launch was scheduled for Monday from Cape Canaveral, Fla., but the flight was scrubbed due to weather, according to Viasat. Regardless, the latest satellite, known as Viasat-3 F3 and weighing six metric tons, will provide 1 terabit per second of internet capacity to the APAC region.

In a press release, the company said it expects the F3 satellite to enter service in late summer.
