School Threat – San Marcos

A bomb threat at San Marcos High School was unfounded.

The threat was called in around 8:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6. As a precaution, students arriving at school were sent home with their parents. San Marcos High School implemented its lockdown procedures for students and staff already on campus.

Deputies with the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene along with bomb sniffing dogs from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Cal State San Marcos. California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officers also responded to the incident. The K-9s cleared a soccer field before students and staff were moved to the open area as deputies and partner law enforcement agencies thoroughly searched the buildings. The rest of the students and staff were released just before 11:00 a.m. Extra patrols will be conducted at San Marcos High School on Monday, October 9.

At this time, there is no connection to an unfounded social media threat at San Marcos Elementary on Monday, October 2.

The safety of our school children is a priority for the Sheriff’s Department and we take all such threats seriously.
