UPDATE

On Friday, April 10, 2020, at about 0757 hours, Oceanside Police Department responded to 523 Garfield Street regarding a fight in the front yard of this location. When officers arrived, they found the victim, identified as 45-year-old Chad Danielson, bleeding from stab wounds. Neighbors who witnessed the suspect fleeing described him as a large Hispanic male adult with long dark hair. Officers provided lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived. Paramedics continued with medical aid to Danielson and he was transported to Palomar Medical Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Crimes of Violence Unit was called out to investigate.

Before the incident, Danielson had last been seen by his family, leaving his residence to walk the family’s dog. Upon his return home, a short time later, he was attacked in his yard by the unknown male suspect, described above.

In the days since this murder, investigators have worked around the clock trying to determine exactly what happened and to locate the suspect involved in this murder. We have learned that Danielson was a family man and a local PE teacher. Oceanside Unified School District Superintendent, Dr. Julie Vitale, has described Danielson as, “…an incredible teacher at Jefferson Middle School who worked hard to develop meaningful relationships with his students. His positivity and genuine care for his students was evident on a daily basis.” Based on information we have received, it appears Danielson was well respected by school staff and loved by all of his students.

On the morning of this murder there appeared to have been vehicle and foot traffic near the crime scene. It is our belief that someone may have seen the suspect or have information about this murder. If you or anyone you know has information, the Oceanside Police Department is asking you to contact Sergeant Keli Garcia at 760-435-4815 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or www.sdcrimestoppers.org
