OCEANSIDE — More than two years after a fire destroyed the iconic restaurant at the end of the Oceanside Pier, plans to rebuild continue to move forward, although city officials have not yet released a final design or construction schedule.

The restaurant site is leased by OS Pier LLC, which assumed the lease following Ruby’s Diner’s bankruptcy. In 2023, the Oceanside City Council approved a 10-year extension of the lease, allowing the tenant to continue working toward redevelopment of the property.

Before the April 2024 fire, the leaseholder had been exploring a new restaurant concept that would have featured a more contemporary, seafood-focused menu. Those plans were halted when the fire destroyed the building at the western end of the pier.

Since then, the City of Oceanside has focused on engineering studies, environmental review, and planning for the reconstruction of the damaged portion of the pier. While work continues behind the scenes, no architectural renderings or detailed design plans for the new restaurant have been released to the public.

City officials have indicated that the replacement restaurant is expected to be built in approximately the same location at the end of the pier. The rebuilt public pier section is anticipated to reopen before the restaurant itself is completed.

Although there is no official groundbreaking date, the project continues to advance through the planning process. Additional details—including architectural drawings, construction timelines, and the restaurant’s final concept—are expected to be announced as the design phase progresses.

For many Oceanside residents and visitors, the return of a restaurant at the end of the pier will mark another milestone in restoring one of Southern California’s most recognizable coastal landmarks.
